title: Kris sent this to me the other day...
The Military Wife:
The Good Lord was creating a model for the military wives and was in his sixth day of overtime. An Angel appeared. She said "Lord, you seem to be having a lot of trouble with this one. What is wrong with the standard model?"
The Lord replied "Have you seen the specs on this order? She has to be completely independent, possess the qualities of both mother and father, be a perfect hostess for four or forty with an hour notice, run on black coffee, handle every emergency imaginable without a manual, be able to carry on cheerfully, even if she is pregnant or has the flu, and she must have six pairs of hands".
The Angel shook her head. "Six pairs of hands? No way!"
The Lord continued... "Don't worry, we will giver her an unusually strong heart so that it can sustain the pain of separation, be soundly when it is overworked and tired, and be large enough to say 'I understand' when it doesn't and 'I love you' regardless".
"Lord", said the Angel, "Go to bed and get some rest. You can finish this tomorrow".
"I can't stop now", said the Lord. "I am close to creating something unique. Already this model heals herself when she is sick, can put up guests for the weekend, wave goodbye to her husband from a pier, a runway, or a depot and understand why it's important for him to leave".
The Angel circled the model of the Military Wife, looked at it closely and sighed, "It looks fine, but it's too soft".
"She may look soft", replied the Lord, "but she has the strength of a lion. You would not believe what she can endure".
Finally, the Angel bent over and ran her finger across the cheek of the Lord's creation. "There's a leak", she announced. "Something is wrong with the construction. I'm not surprised it's cracked. You are trying to put too much onto this model".
The Lord appeared offended at the angel's lack of confidence. "What you see is not a leak", he said, "it's a tear".
"A tear? What is it there for?, asked the Angel.
The Lord replied, "It's for joy, sadness, pain, disappointment, loneliness, pride, dedication to all the values that she and her husband hold dear".
"You are a genius!", exclaimed the Angel.
The Lord looked puzzled and replied, "I didn't put it there".
I love you.

title: one month
It has been a month since Kris has deployed.
One month since I held his hand last.
One month since I saw his face last.
One month since I had to fight for blankets.
I got to talk to him this morning which was a treat. He loses his internet connection Oct. 01/13, which is a huge bummer as that is our current method of communication. It will be a long couple months after that till he is home again.
He managed to pack the wrong camera cable to hook it up to the computer, which has turned into a great excuse to send him a package. And man this package is full! He will be receiving:
- Beef Jerky
- Cliff Bars
- Gum
- A new green toothbrush
- Floss
- Olive Drab razors
- Shaving cream
- Two sticks of Deodorant, mainly because the extra stick is called "danger zone" =)
- Rub A535
- A roller ball thingy for under his eyes, something "anti-fatigue" which I found hilarious, he may not
- Monsters vs. Aliens the movie, something to keep him busy
- A sappy book of Sonnets by the all time favourite William
- A couple bars of soap, can never be too clean in Afghanistan
- Gold bond powder for his feet
- Solarcaine gel, someone told me it was hot there
- Green tea
- Some nasal spray for dry noses
- Visine, in case he gets sand in his eyes
And some other little things that he may or may not need...
I might throw in some bobby pins, cause goodness knows that they are everywhere around our house, so they might as well make it to Afghanistan!
